Hi there .....I just got my hood pierced on the on the 4th of March it is now the 8th. I know it takes awhile for healing my question is: The piercer told me to use betadine and clean it 2x daily. I have been and it is burning like Hell!
I've been researching sites and they say to us salt water and some say use antibacterial soap. Others say dont use this and that. What do you think I should. I asked piercer they told me to use the betadine I would just like a second opinion.
thanks.
Thank you soooo much......I emailed the piercer w the same question and he said it was normal for it to burn....thanks again......i'll take ur advice
When we received your email, we went looking for the solution because you should not be burning when cleaning any piercing, especially in the genital area.
Since you have been experiencing a burning sensation from the cleaning, take it easy when you decide to start having sex.
I was doing research and came across this page becaue I just recenly got my VCH pierced 4days ago and I have been using soap (DOVE) and sea salt, but my piercing continues to burn when I sit for at least 10 min or more when im standing or sleeping i am perfectly fine. Am I having an allergic reaction to the ring because it feels raw when i sit?
I just got mine done on Thursday and piercer told me not to use anything , just to make sure I kept the area clean . So I have been cleaning it twice a day with my normal soap and things are great I don't even feel it . So maybe your using something to harsh . He also told me not to use sea salts ?????
It will be good if you do not use any thing harsh,i think u should use your regular soap to just clean the area.
Do not move or clean the piercing. Soap around the area and let warm water run over it and the body will do the rest.
Really appreciate this post. It’s hard to sort the good from the bad sometimes, but I think you’ve nailed it!

We went browsing to find information about Betadine and its uses. This is what we have found:
Betadine Solution is used primarily for preoperative prepping of the operative site, as a general topical bactericide virucide for disinfection of wounds and as a prophylactic anti- infective agent in hospital and office procedures.
You claim that it stings when using this product and from the information gathered, you may be using one of these products:
Betadine Surgical Scrub and Betadine Skin Cleanser should be used externally and should not be used on mucous membranes, such as the vaginal area.
The company states that:
BETADINE® Solution is the aqueous solution of povidone-iodine 10%. It is indicated to kill germs in minor burns, cuts and scrapes.
Piercings are none of these types of injuries and therefore not useful for the aftercare.
We use this product in order to prepare the client for a piercing and follow the guidelines stipulated for hospital usage.
As for our aftercare, we recommend you stop using any product and continue to do your usual general hygiene before you received the piercing. Do not move or clean the piercing. Soap around the area and let warm water run over it and the body will do the rest.
Because the tissues are quite labile, it only takes 7 days to fully heal this piercing.
Hope we have helped.
