tragus problem

hi, I have had my tragus pierced last 7 December. All seemed to go well until about 2 weeks afterwards, I saw that notorious bump which seems to be very common on most ppl. I followed your advice which you gave to ppl with same problem, that is, I did not clean it any more but treated it with hot water. The bump seemed to react well on some days but since two days ago I noticed that it has gone redder and even some slight blood is coming through it when I use a swab on it to treat it. It is annoying me as it is bigger almost like the piercing and very unattractive and red. What is your advice, and for how long do you think my piercing will be accompanied by this bump? Thanks

It could be that you are still putting enough pressure on it or touching it enough that the bump is not going away.

Try to completely ignore it as the hot water may be too much for it.

Thanks for your reply,

Is it possible that all this time has gone and there is a very small bump still around my piercing. Although very small it is annoying me a bit as it seems it does not want to disappear. Is it normal such thing>

Also I would like to ask, if I had to remove piercing altogether so that maybe bump may go, if barbell is not present in piercing, does the same piercing close? I have had it for 7 months now and never removed it and I fear that if barbell is removed, piercing will close.

One last thing - how does this barbell get removed, what is the technique?

Thanks again for your help

Thanks for your advice. My tragus seemed on the right track to heal and infact the bump disappeared quite a few weeks ago, but last week I accidentally knocked it at home. I immediately felt like a burn on my piercing and soon afterwards the infamous red bump appeared again. It's almost a week now and it is still there. It's not quite as big as when I had it weeks ago but a bit red. Is it normal that bumps reappear 3 months after the piercing was made? Shall I continue to treat it as before, that is, completely ignoring it and let the body heal it?

If you injury your piercing, you have the chance of developing another bump.  Your piercing is still healing and will take about a full year to develop the granulation tissue.

So be careful not to injury your piercing.

So if I am understanding well, if I injure the piercing again in the course of one year I will get a bump, is that true? Meanwhile, I have the following questions, I would be grateful if you can reply to them:

1. Can I remove piercing once bump has disappeared?
2. Is there a risk that the piercing will close once I remove piercing?
3. I have a barbell with balls at the end, can you tell me how can I remove the piercing?

Thanks

You could get a bump if you injure the piercing, not guaranteed that you will.

With any piercing under the age of a year, can close if you remove the jewellery for extended periods of time.  But each person is different and we have been able to recover many piercings that should have been closed.  We cannot say what will happen with your piercing.

Since you have a barbell, please put on a pair of latex or vinyl gloves.  Put one hand on each side of the ball and twist the balls to the left; one should give and just keep turning until it comes off.

Good luck

ok, iIhave gone with your advice and piercing seemed to heal well. The bump diminished but it never disappeared completely. I have it small now, almost the colour of the skin, but it's still there. It's not red or big as before, but it did not go off completely. Any advice as how to proceed? Does it go off completely?

Glad to read that the piercing is doing better and that the bump is disappear and is now a neutral colour.

You now need patience and continue to leave it alone and the body will do the rest.

Keep in touch

10x as always for yr reply.

Bump's colour is not that neutral, but not that red neither. The thing that is worrying me is that it has gone small but has not disappeared. For weeks it has stayed there and although small in size it is annoying me. I've read that hot compresses can help. Is that true? And how long does it stay there, cos like I said it's been weeks now and it has not disappeared.

Yes, warm water compress will help.  If you still have a small bump, you are still doing something to the piercing or bump.

You can try the warm water compress (very warm) and keep it on the area for about 10 minutes in the morning and evening.

Do not move or touch the ring if possible.  Do not sleep on that side.  These are just something we say to get you to think about what you may do to your piercing unknowingly.

Please be patient, since the bump is so small it will go away.
