i've had my tragus pierced about a month now.

The piercer had told me to clean the piercing with half liquid anti-bactieral soap and water.. 50 50 twice a day

the first week was awesome. i had no problem what so ever.. towards the half of the 2nd week i started to develop a redish lump inside next to my tragus piercing. when i would touch it, it would be really soar and when i cleaned (also moving the ring around) the area it would hurt a lot. thinking that it developed by improper cleaning i started to clean even more (3 times a day). there would be a liquid kind of form coming out from the lump for 2 days and it stopped.. later a red pimple like bump had developed outside next to my tragus piercing.. the pimple like bump sometimes itches and is very soar when i touch it with a Q-tip. its starting to get bigger and redder as the days go by.. i really don't want to take out the piercing and i would love it if someone helped me on this!!!

i hope i gave enough detail..

Thank you so much!

The problem is partially due to the fact that you increased the amount of cleaning instead of cutting it down to almost nothing.

You have to understand that all cleaning and moving of the jewellery is not good for any piercing, we only clean for about 2 weeks and then stop completely and let the body do the job of healing.

The more you clean, the more you irritate and the more painful it gets.  So please stop doing anything to it.  Do a very warm compress 2 times a day for about 10 minutes.  This will help calm down the tissues and help express the fluid inside the bump.  Its fibrous tissue in the bump as the body does not understand that you have jewellery in the hole, it just sees the hole and it wants to heal itself.

The more you do, the longer it will take for it to heal.

Keep in touch with your progress.

Thank you for the reply.. i'll stop touching it and do warm water compress right away..

i have another question, if i wanted to take out or change the jewelry is it possible for it not to close? i've gotten my piercing a little over a month now..

my friend took out her barbell about 2 months after she got it done and told me that it got infected and gotten worse from when she had the jewelry in.. is that possible for anyone?

We strongly recommend you wait until the bump has disappeared before you change the jewellery.  We know that if you change it on your own or have a friend do it and the bump is not gone, it may become irritated enough to cause an increase in size again.

The interesting thing about 'friend's stories' is that they never really give you enough information or are truly honest with what happened to their piercings.  So please let us just deal with your situation and to avoid a possible problem with jewellery changing, we recommend going to a piercing shop.  We also recommend that you use implant grade surgical stainless steel (316L) or titanium jewellery for your piercings.  This could be part of the reason for your friend's problems.

Keep in touch with your progress

well i've been doing the warm water compress... and i'm waiting on the results.. :)

i was actually wondering, would it get dirty?  i'm not touching it or cleaning it at all except for the warm water.

i'm just so tired of this stupid bump and my tragus being sore... i really love my tragus piercing and i just don't want it to get worse...

thank you so much.

Actually its not a bad thing, it means that you ar bringing to the surface the irritation and the bumps will do either pop on their own, or you will do it when you do another compress.  We do suggest that you increase the temperature of the water a little, this may help bring the relief needed.

Please be a little more patient.  You must have done a lot of damage irritation to your piercing.

If you take out the jewellery now, you risk the puss staying inside the body and that will make matters worse.
