About 25% of our clients opt for a labret stud as the initial jewelry, with the rest preferring a ring. If a labret stud is used, it should be about 50% longer than the length of the piercing to accomodate expected swelling, and to permit cleaning of the piercing. A shorter stud can be used after the initial swelling has subsided, but there should always be a little play in the jewelry.
