well i got my tragus pierced about six weeks ago. After i got it pierced i bought a cleaning solution from the piercer and have been using it with a Q-tip applying it the front and back of the piercing. i've also been rotation the hoop every night.
however, just over a week ago the ball part of the hoop got caught on a article of clothing. so i went to the piercer and got the hoop replaced. before getting the hoop replaced i noticed that i seemed to have a bump on my ear right by the back of the hoop.
when my piercer saw this she told me it was because i didn't "massage" the piercing enough and gave me some pads to put the cleaning solution on instead of using Q-tips. i have been trying to clean the bump well, but it hurts a lot.
now i've switched from using the piercers cleaning solution to using hydrogen peroxide and after polysporin from my local drugstore.
nothing seems to be helping and i love my tragus piercing so i really don't want to have to take it out. please can someone help me :(
We cannot understand why you would get the jewellery replaced if the ball caught on something. Did it damage the ring?
Well, you have been badly abusing your piercing with all the harsh products that you put on it. All of these do NOT help only hinder the healing. People cannot seem to understand that its not the products that heal, but your body that does the healing. Anything that you use on your piercing irritates it, that is why our aftercare is so short.
Now, STOP USING THE PEROXIDE AND POLYSPORIN. The peroxide will kill everything, healthy and unhealthy. You will start to see the tissues look white and very dry. The polysporin is only effective for the first 3 days and ONLY if you have an infection. You DO NOT have an infection. You have irritated it!
Massaging the piercing is wrong because this is just like irritating it and will only increase the size of the bump and the pain, just as you have described. It is not scar tissue that doctors recommend to massage so that it will be reabsorbed into the body. The body will have to reabsorb this on its own, by stopping all irritants and allowing the body to do its job.
We strongly recommend you STOP DOING ANYTHING TO YOUR PIERCING.
You will also notice some crusties forming. If this happens, then take a warm cloth and place over the piercing. After a few minutes, take a Q-tip and remove them (you may want to have someone do this part so not to damage the tissues more). The piercing may look dry or chapped, if so, take another Q-tip and some moisturizer and apply until absorbed. Do NOT put into the piercing, just on the tissues around it.
After a week, if you do not see improvement, please write back.
