For my aftercare I have been using biotene for my mouthwash, diluted 50 50. I gargle every hour for 30 seconds each and also gargle after everytime I eat.
I was told you put gly-oxide on both top and bottom holes twice a day, one in morning and one at night.
I have been drinking cold water with ice alot, does this aftercare sound fine?
No, the aftercare you describe is not good. Too much rinsing and the Biotene is not appropriate for piercings. Its original function was for hospital patients who had dry mouth. You needed something that would kill bacteria and this product does not.
You are now into the third week of your aftercare and at this point, you just have to use a regular mouthwash and you must increase your time inbetween the rinses. In otherwords, rinse once every 3 hours. No dilution and not after everything that you eat.
By the end of the third week, you should be on regular hygiene. What you did before you got your tongue pierced, you may want to include a plaque reducing mouthwash as some develop plaque on the bottom ball.

how long do you have to stay off solid foods?
My piercer said it was ok to eat the first day if I was comfortable with it.
If I had problems to move to soft food for a couple days then back to solid food and to taks small bites and to chew slowly so not to tangle the barbell in your teeth and to get a feel for how to eat again.
What is your definition of soft foods. We call soft foods, scrambled eggs, mashed spagetti with tomato sauce, mashed potatoes with cheese and of course, creamed soups. All these have good nutrition and help exercise your tongue which is necessary to help bring down the swelling.
Extra strength Midol is also very helpful as the tongue is a muscle as well and this product helps reduce swelling quickly.
