I just got my helix pierced today and the jewelry appears to be VERY tight to my ear, almost as if it is squishing it. Is this just because my ear is swollen from the piercing or is the jewelry too small? Would the piercer have allowed me to get this size ring if they knew it would be too small? When should the swelling go down to see if the jewelry really is too small?
Thanks

Extreme swelling of the helix is rare. Particularly this soon after the piercing. Typically, peak swelling occurs in the second or third day after an injury.
As a piercer, I can sympathize with both you and your piercer. We try to use jewelry which will accommodate any swelling, and the usual reaction of a client is "My God, that's huge!". With the rarity of swelling in the helix, we often permit the client to reduce the size of jewelry we place.
See your piercer, and he will probably be happy to place a larger piece in your helix to relieve the stresses. The swelling should reduce quickly after the jewelry is changed.
