switching out jewlery

I've had my nipple pierced since last August (2006) and it hasn't healed completely yet.  After reading over many of the postings I've come to the conclusion that I am over cleaning.  The person who pierced me told me to clean until it healed, which obviously is not what I'm supposed to be doing.  I want to switch out my captive bead ring to a barbell so I'm wondering if I should wait until my piercing heals or can I do it now?  Also, what length barbell should I use?

Yes, you can now switch to a barbell.  The size of the barbell will depend on how long your piercing is.  We custom make our barbells as each person is not the same size after getting pierced.

We also do not know what gauge you were pierced with.  Most places have certain lengths that they purchase to sell.  All we can suggest is going to a piercing shop and look at the jewellery and speak to a piercer about the length so that it fits well without being too much longer than is necessary.
