Swelling

I've had my earlobes pierced for just over a month now. I cleaned them following the procedure set out for me for the first two weeks, and that was good. On Sunday, my left ear got really red and swollen; then on Monday, the right ear followed suit. What's happening? I've been cleaning them with soap and using polysporin on them since they've gotten larger

I need to know more to help. If you are in Kingston, drop in to see me. Otherwise, I need to know the full W5 on your piercings, and a better description of the problem.

I thought Polysporn was not to be use for the healing of piercings as poly is intent to completely heal the "wound" and with a piercing you DON'T want it to completely heal.

WTF????

Yes you want the piercing to heal completely. No, in spite of what the commercials say, polysporin does NOT heal anything. It provides a barrier to any bacteria so the freshly injured tissues are not compromised by an infection during the early stages of healing.

After the first couple of days, polysporin is completely unnecessary.
