I just got snake bites on Aug 22. (7 16g i believe)  They were good the first day and all but then i went to a carnival.  i believe the playing irritated it and it began to harshly swell.

my lip is large and feels a little dry and rubbery. i dont really know if thats normal.  Also i have bruising on the left inside of my mouth beside the ring, its rather a dark red purple.  is that also normal?

Playing with any lip piercings can make the lip extremely sore and swelling is a big problem.  Having 2 is just doubling the problem.  If you have been playing with them at all, then this only aggrevates the situation even further.

What is your aftercare?  You are also at peak swelling and this just seems to add to the problem.  Please do NOT use salt water soaks, or anything that will dry out the tissues.  You stated that your tissues feel rubbery and this is probably because of the type of aftercare you have been doing.  The more information you can give us the better we can help resolve the problem.

Brusing is normal and there is not much you can do about it but try and not play with it.  We also recommend some anti-inflammatory medication like Advil or Tylenol to help reduce swelling.

Keep in touch with your progress.

Well its been something like two weeks. My aftercare has been the same, after i eat or drink and thing but water i tend to brush my teeth and use a tiny bit of listerine+water and rub some saline solution on the outside. I never have used salt water solutions.  i dont use saline as much as i had to before, only a max of 3 times a day depending if the piercings get irritated or sore.

When should i stop all of my aftercare or should i still rinse with a little bit of listerine and use saline on a daily basis?

But since i last posted the swelling has went away dramatically and bruising is no longer present. Yet they stay a bit red on the outside around the piercing itself, is that anything to worry about?

Please STOP all of your aftercare.  This is overcleaning and why you still have irritation and redness.

For your information:  Salt water IS saline solution.

It is good that your piercings are healing nicely even though you have been abusive to them.  Using the saline solution 3 times a day has an effect of drying out the tissues and why you are still red on the outside.

Whatever dential hygiene you had done before the piercings, you can now return to doing.  Let the body heal the piercings.
