Small keloid or granuloma?

I have an industrial in my right ear which was done in spring of 2003 (by you guys actually).  It has healed fine and there was little problem in switching it to the barbell.  There was some tenderness but all in all it healed well.  Eventually however, it developed a bump near the upper hole on the inside of the ridge of cartilage.  Its slightly tender at times (particularly if I've slept on it several nights in a row) but otherwise is not really noticeable.  Its hard to see as its tucked up under the ridge but its very easy to feel.

I was wondering if there's a way to reduce the size or even get rid of this bump even though its been around for quite some time (I would estimate a year and a half at least).  I'm not sure if its a "full-blown" keloid or if it can be healed considering the age of the bump.  This would be my first attempt at trying to reduce it as it didn't really bother me before.  Its really just the perfectionist in me that wants this healed.  I also have two other helix piercings (outer edge of my left ear and a rook that is also in my left ear) and both have healed fine.

Thanks for your help!

You definitely have a keloid.  We would recommend you see your doctor for the best way to deal with this keloid.  There is nothing we can do to help, you waited too long before doing something about it.

A keloid takes about 1 year to fully form and you stated that you had this bump for over that length of time.

Good luck

Thanks for the answer!

Since its not negatively affecting the piercing or highly visible I'm not going to worry too much about it.  Next time I go to the doctor I'll mention it but its not serious enough to warrant its own trip.
