Small dent in ear cartilage

Hi there, first off just want to say thanks for the awesome service you're providing on this bulletin board.

My question is about a regular old ear cartilage piercing with a 14ga surgical steel cbr. I had it done back in july 06, no aftercare after the first week besides occasionally just wiping it off with a q-tip after showering. (you helped me with my nostril piercing back in '05 and I am now a spreader of the "leave it alone" gospel!)

anyway, I haven't been paying much attention to it,  I generally just leave it alone. Yesterday, though, I started playing with it to see if it was still hurting as much when I flip the jewelry upward (it is getting better, yay). I noticed something weird - there is a slight dent in the cartilage where the jewelry rests on the outside of my ear. It's nothing huge, just a little permanent dent in the cartilage itself. Is this normal? I just want to make sure I'm not somehow eroding my ear or something. :)
Thanks!

You may want to change the jewellery and let the tissues return to normal.

This happens sometimes when you sleep on that ear and put regular pressure on the same area.
