A friend referred me to this site for my peircing questions.
I got my tongue peirced about 8 weeks ago. The healing process was as good as I could've hoped.
The only concern I have is, there is a build up of hard-er skin fascia under my tongue, positioned aroud the hole.
I'm not sure if I should be concerned about this or not. It's not painful and it's not effecting the peircing, but it's horrible looking. It still makes the hole discharge a white substance from time to time.
Is this normal in the healing process?
Thanks for your help.
Yes it is part of the healing process but this white film appears only during the first 2 weeks and then its gone.
If you have this problem after 8 weeks, it may not be part of the healing but an irritation.
We need to know what your aftercare was and what products you used and how often.
Thanks
For the first 7 weeks I progressed with half and half Biotene after everything i ate or drink ( i don't smoke, and kiss open mouth once). Less and less by weeks 6-8. Then i noticed this ring around the underbelly of my tongue, so i started using a antimicrobial oral rinse from the dentist.
it's becoming smaller, but still quite noticeable.
You are overdoing the aftercare. After 4 weeks, you should be doing nothing to your piercing that you did not do before it was pierced.
The more you do to the piercing, the longer it will take for it to heal. The antimicrobial rinse you are using is only effective if you have an infection and this will do more damage to the tissues, so please STOP doing everything to your piercing.
Just leave it alone and let the body heal itself. You are irritating the piercing and until you stop bothering it the problem will not go away.
