I am thinking about getting my lip pierced and was wondering if there were any risks or any information that I might not be finding. If a labret stud goes in will it definitely nest in my lip as it heals? Should I have a ring or labret stud put in for the healing process? This isn't my first body piercing but it is my firt facial piercing and I want it to look right.
Also, I am moving to the NWT and was wondering if the extreme cold would effect it or make it sore?
The disk on the back of a labret stud should nest slightly in the soft tissue inside the mouth. You just don't want it to get buried in the tissue.
We post a warning every year on our web site about cold and facial piercings. Metal transmits heat just like it transmits electricity. In extreme cold conditions, jewelry will remove heat from the supporting tissue and radiate it to the cold air. If the heat is not replaced as fast as it is removed, the tissues will freeze, and the inside of the piercing will be frost bitten. If you are out in extreme cold conditions, especially if there is a wind, protect your facial piercings from the elements! The problem is less likely to arise in highly vascular tissue like the lip, than it is in cartilage (ear, nose), but it is still a good idea to keep them warm.
