okay i am getting my navel peirced (probably) in two days when my friend comes out to visit me. i dont have a place chosen but i was wondering since it was summer can i swim a couple of days after getting it peirced or is that a bad idea?? will flying damage it for some reason?? i got the impression after reading one of the other columns that maybe peircing with a barbel is a bad idea but i would really like to have it done with one and will i have problems if i do??
because i know some peircing places can be kind of 'grim' and i live half an hour between two towns so it would be hard to go and check out a piercing place before hand is anyone aware of any good piercing places in Courtenay BC or Campbell River BC (they are small towns on Vancouver Island).
thanks so much, any advice would be great! :)
We do recommend having this piercing done with a ring first and then switching to a barbell at 6 weeks. We know that there are many places in BC that do piercings with rings. The barbell does not allow for swelling and it could become so swollen that you may not be able to see the balls on the barbells and it may cause you a lot of discomfort.
All we can suggest is that you go visit them and talk to the piercers in person and find out how they perform this piercing and ASK LOTS OF QUESTIONS before you get this done. If you are not happy with the person, you are not obligated to get it done there. In the end, its your body and you have to take responsibility for it and if you develop a problem, you have to deal with it.
Swimming in a pool is not a problem, but lake water is not a good idea because it has lots of bacteria in it and it can cause you an infection. Flying will not do anything to your piercing, just be careful when wearing the seatbeat that it does not put pressure or irritate the piercing.
Good luck and let us know how it goes.
i got my belly button pierced and it was okay for the first little while (it is about only a month old) but now it is a bt red and perhaps pussing a little. i havent been putting anything on it although a piercing place i went to strongly reccomended a product called Satin to clean it and i wanted to see if that was ok before buying it??
At this point there is no need to clean. You did not tell us what you used when you first got it done. Did you get a ring or a barbell? What colour is the puss and how red is the area?
If the colour of the puss is white and the redness is just around the holes, then this is a normal part of healing and its nothing to worry about. It could also be pussing because it has been knocked around in some way. So be careful when wearing clothing around the navel area or work clothes.
Please write back and answer these questions so that we can better assist you in having a healthy piercing.
it was pierced with a barbell and it is red only around the top and bottom the 'puss' is yellowish white. the only way i have een cleaning it is with pears soap once every 2 or three days in the shower.
At this stage, there is no longer a need to clean the piercing at all. Just normal hygiene is necessary. We recommend soaping around the piercing and let the warm water run over it.
Afterwards, take a Q-tip and dry off the inside of your navel. Do nothing more, please as you could cause more problems in the future.
If you already have yellowish pus coming from it; there is a good chance that you have irritated it enough that if you continue you will have major problems.
