Hi Blackstar,
I have a question..
I just read your aftercare forum and it's different from what my piercer tells me. He said to use sea salt with water twice a day for 3 and a half months but your aftercare says to use soap. I asked him a lot of questions since I've had migration before but he said changing the jewelry too early and not cleaning it during the 3.5 months of healing process will result in migration. I'm not sure what to do.. i mean how long should I be cleaning it for and does sea salt work? Also, most of the websites I've come across recommends sea salt..
I just got it done this past thursday.. so 2 days ago. I've been using H20cean spray in the morning when I don't have time to soak it but at night I use 1 4teaspoon of sea salt mixed in 8oz 1 cup of distilled water.
Please let me know.
Thanks!
-Katie
Would you wash your face and body with salt water? If not, why? We believe that salt water does not clean, it is used to retard the healing process and to remove dead skin from wounds from surgery. This is what hospitals use it for. Also in a saline solution to balance the electrolytes in the blood.
Migration is a mechanical process and as you move the jewellery up and down, you keep breaking down the tissues in front of the piercing. The more you move the barbell, the greater the chance that migration will occur.
Our aftercare, cleaning the piercing for such a short amount of time will kick start the body to do the healing. Even our aftercare is irritating to the piercing but its limited to a short time. In reality, its the body that heals the piercing, not any product you use. If you get a scratch, you clean it and put on a bandaid; after a few days you remove the bandaid and the scratch is healing without any intervention from you. A piercing is really no different.
You now have more information that has been given to us from health care professionals and this is why we do what we do. You have a decision to make; at least you have now other opinions from which to make your decision from.
Good luck
um.. well i've read that sea salt dissolved in water helps clear pimples but i've never actually tried it myself.
I haven't been moving my jewerly up and down at all or touching it either.
Thanks for replying.. I think I'm going to stick to sea salt water because its working well and hasn't been troublesome.
um.. i just noticed some white colored dried stuff on the top and bottom entrance hole of my piercing.. is that what people call "crust"?
P.S is it safe to use lavender or tea tree oil?
If you continue to use the salt water, you will develop problems. You are already seeing the result off too high of a concentration of salt in the water you are currently using. The dried stuff is partially a result of the harsh salt water you are using. Now your piercing is old enough that you no longer need to clean it at all.
Just leave it alone, especially in the shower. Let warm water run over your piercing and soap around the piercing. Do not move it or turn it in any way.
Lavender and Tea Tree oils have their place in the world, but we have found that they are not very helpful for a piercing. The oil will clog the pores and bacteria could get into the piercing and cause you other problems.
We know that Tea Tree oil is a good anti-parasitic product, but you do not have any parasites in your piercing and there is no fungun either so the product would not do anything but create the environment for these bacteria to grow. Lavender is a relaxing oil and helpful for sleep. If this is part of your problem, then put some on a little pillow near the head of your bed and have a great sleep.
Hope we have helped.
thanks. I've stopped cleaning it now and i just let water run over my piercing. Hopefully my piercing will heal up soon so i can change it =]
Thanks for all your help! I appreciate it =]
Keep in touch with your progress and we are glad to have helped.
