after 2 1/2 weeks is up, how often should the piercing be cleaned and how should it be done, in order to prevent infection?

The best way to prevent infection is to let it heal. If you are not having a problem, leave it alone. Normal personal hygeine should be sufficient. Do not clean the piercing.
