Ok so i got my nose pierced about 3 months ago and about 2 weeks ago i noticed a bump on the side of my nose ring.

Its purplish and does not bleed or seem to have pus in it.  it also does not hurt but its gross and my nostril screwdoes kind of hide it.  i did have a lot of allergies and was constantly blowing my nose so i dont know if this irritated but i think that is why the bump is there.

I have read most of the "bumps" post but mine doesnt pus or bleed.  i dont want to take the nostril screw out because i love it so much but i dont know what to do.

I have used sea salt and even hot compresses but nothing seems to work. please help!

I have left it alone and it just seems to stay the same, it even itches sometimes. what do i do?

If you have read the posts about the bump, then you will realize that salt water irritates and does not heal this piercing.  The purple colour is the result.  Blowing your nose could also be part of the problem, but we have many clients who also have allergies and they are not experiencing any problems.

Anything that you do will irritate this piercing at this point so leaving it completely alone is best.  Do not use salt water anymore.  The bump has fluid inside, as the body is trying to heal the problem by patching it up.  This is done with fibrous tissue, which is what part of the nostril area is made up of.

You have just left this piercing alone for 2 days and it takes more than that for the body to start to reabsorb the fluid inside the bump so please be patient.  You are also stating that you are itchy and this is actually a good comment and means that your body is going to start to do something to the bump.

See how it does in a week and if you still do not see any reduction in size of bump, please write back.

If it came back, you have done something to irritate it again.

Please try to be careful not to bother it at all.  The only time you should have to touch it is to place a warm water compress to soften the crusties.

The redness is normal because you have irritated it and its responding.  The itchy is probably due to the flakey skin from the crusties.

Be patient and it will shrink again.

Please do not pop it.  It may return even larger and more difficult to get rid of.

If it has a white head then the warm water compress will help get it to express on its own.

im kind of freaking out. i have not touched my nose and last night after washing my face the towel moved my piercing it did not come out but it did hurt.

well today i cant even touch the side of my nose that is pierced because it hurts so much. i cant flare my nostril either as it is extremely sore.

i just want to know if this is normal, please let me know. thanks.

Sorry to tell you but you have injured your nose again and your body is responding normally.  It will be sore for a couple of days, you can use a warm compress but otherwise, do not do anything else.  You have to let the body do its job.  You can take an anti-inflamatory like Advil and this may help.

The most important thing you can do is to stay calm and not become stressed.  We have found that some people who get stressed have a hard time healing.  Did the bump change at all?  If it has reduced, great.  If not, do not worry this is just a small setback.

Your mom is not correct.  It is not permenant.  It is fluid filled and your body will take care of it.

Please be patient.  Even if you removed the jewellery, the bump will take several days before it starts to dissipate and this will happen with the jewellery in place as well.

Put a warm compress (water only) and leave it for a couple of minutes.  Take an anti-inflamatory as well.

Please stop stresses about the piercing.  The body will heal itself, you just have to let it do its job.

If the bump is as big and red as you say, then it will pop on its own.  Just be patient.

Yes, it will.  Just leave it alone and you should notice a little bit of flaking (dried skin) coming off the bump and this should remove the scar as it goes.

Glad to read its gone.

Take care
