I got my belly pierced in November and it just recently started getting extremely irritated. I've had it pierced before and the infection was bad because my belly ring literally fell through the skin and tore it. It's healed since but now it looks like it's about to do the same thing. It looks like it's hanging on a piece of skin, it's extremely itchy and everytime my clothing rubs against it slightly or I bend down, it hurts. Is it smarter to leave the piercing in or take it out?
Rely on history.
If it has happened before, and you see the same thing happening again, it is best not to let it get to the point of tearing the skin. A navel piercing that is catching on clothing is constantly irritated, and the tissues supporting the piercing will begin to break down if the situation is not corrected. The jewelry will migrate because the irritated tissues break down, and heal behind the jewelry. This is the same process the body uses to rid itself of a splinter.
If you are in Kingston, come in and let us have a look at it, and we can advise you better.

It's starting to crust and the pain is increasing bit by bit. Should I take it out for the time being?
PS. I've been putting Vaseline on it because it's a moisturizer and I thought it could help keep the skin around my navel moisturized so the skin wouldn't break. Are there any other ointments I can use?
Vaseline is NOT a moisturizer.
Yes you should probably remove it.
