Hi,
I wrote last week about my 'bump'. It went down after 4 days (as it usually does) but then my partner accidently knocked it it was barely a knock, just a slight tap and it has come back up today.
I am sure that it will be barely visible by the weekend as this is what usually happens. Is it going to keep coming up? I am really worried and am at the point where I am thinking of taking it out....even though I reallly like it when there is no lump.
The lump is not red. It just comes up and stays for about 4 days (because I only wash it with warm water in the morning and before bed as you have advised) but I am sick of it coming up!
What happens if it comes up on my wedding day! Can this go on forever? Please help me.
Its good to know that you are following our advice and you see that the bump does not remain visible for too long. As with any injury, as the piercing is in fact an injury, if you injure it again, you get a reaction. If you fell down and received a scratch, your body would be tender for a few days and start the healing, if you refall on that same spot, does the body not respond accordingly. We are just trying to show you that your piercing will heal.
This is just a small setback. Please be patient. When are you getting married?
Thanks for your advice....I needed some consoling! I am not getting married until early next year so this piercing is on a years probation ;) but I also start back at work in two weeks with my new class and they are going to have a great time seeing their new teacher with a massive growth on her nose! ;)
(I am writing from Australia so our school year is different to yours).
I went to the gym yesterday and the lump has got bigger and whiter. I think that the sweat has irritated it.
Would I be best not going to the gym for a week or so? It has always healed (or gone down) more quickly when I haven't gone (taking only 4 days as opposed to 3 weeks!).
Thanks again
We will get your piercing healthy before you have to get married, but we are not sure if it will dissipate before school starts.
Let us reassure you that sweat has NOTHING to do with your problem. You sweat each day and this is not the concern. What are you doing to it now? Are you using any products at all? Salt water, peroxide, savlon? Because from your description, something is irritating it, the colour (white) is the clue here.
Please continue your workout routine, we have to adjust your nostril routine, OK!
Thank you so much for your support. I wish that I had someone like you here in Oz!
The lump is now pink and actually quite 'neat' looking. It is not crusty. It looks like it will go down in a couple of days, however when it goes down it tends to come back three weeks or so later. Maybe it is just a reaction to a knock that I don't really notice?
Is it supposed to go down or is it supposed to go crusty and explode because mine seems to just go up and down (to the point that I think it has gone)?
I follow your advice and only clean it with water in the morning and before I go to bed using a cotton tip. I pat it dry with cotton too.
When I first got it done (in November) I used a piercing aftercare spray that the piercer gave me (only for a few weeks) but as you suggested, it made my nose react. I only used salt water on it once because it was getting really bad and a stupid piercer suggested it. As a result it blew up...which is when I found your website in a mass panic and followed your advice...this made my massive lump go right down within 4 days (I thought it had gone)....so thank you!!!!
I am staying at the beach this weekend. Should I be careful of the salt water?
Thanks again for your help. It must get annoying having so many people write about the same problem.
The crusties is a result of the fluid being expelled from the bump and the crusties whats left after they have dried up. So this is a good thing and once all the fluid has been expelled, the bump will disappear. The bump increasing and decreasing in size means that there is something still irritating it.
Lets see if doing absolutely nothing to it will help. Do not clean it at all. Maybe the Q-tip or cotton pad are putting enough pressure to irritate it. Try not to put your head under water, just to be on the safe side. Otherwise, enjoy the beach.
We want you to keep your piercing and we want it to be healthy and happy. With respect to your comment about having to deal with these problems, well, why do you think we put this forum together... to help those who need it.
Thanks for your compliments.
hey, i got my nose pierced by a gun a month ago. the stud was really huge so i managed to change it to a smaller one a week later.
But the wound inside around the screw would not heal. it started swelling inside and it bled often. later on, the bump appeared. i did not do anything to it except bathe it in salt water. But lately i realised that since my nose was swelling inside the stud was sort of choking the wound so i decided to take it out and put something else in so that it would heal.
But while i was unscrewing it, the top of the stud broke through the bump and went half way threw the piercing. now i managed to take the stud out but the bump has broken and there is like a red piece of sticky thing outside it, the wound inside is also big.
Please tell me what i can do to heal this. Should i put the stud back on?
Pleases help me!
First, the problem of the swelling and bleeding is caused by the salt water soaks. Please STOP doing this treatment as it only irritates the tissues and the body is unable to heal itself as its dealing with the irritation first.
This also creates the bump as you continue to irritate the piercing, the body believes that there is a problem and has fibrous tissues waiting close by the patch up the hole. You have jewellery in place and want to keep the hole open. The is confusing the body so by leaving it alone, the body will reabsorb the fibrous tissues (the bump) eventually, as long as the irritation stops.
The more you bother your piercing, the longer it will take before the bump will dissappear. The description you wrote about how you removed the jewellery is confusing. We cannot understand how the jewellery broke through the bump as the top of the jewellery is outside of your nose. It is difficult to understand what happened so we need to know what the red sticky thing means. Try to explain this or send us a picture.
You seem to be describing a bump that has popped and now has something being expelled from it. Take a warm, wet cloth place on the nose. After a couple of minutes, take a Q-tip and remove the crusties and dried blood from the area. Otherwise, leave it alone and let it calm down. Do not change the jewellery at this point as doing anything like that may cause another episode.
