piercing moving forward

i've had my tongue pierced for over nine months now.  i have recently noticed that the piercing has moved forward. i'm pretty sure that this is due to my habit of playing with it and pushing it forward.  because of it moving forward, i have also noticed that i'm developing a little bit of a lisp when i say words that have the 's' sound.

should i get my piercing checked out? or should i just take it out, let it heal and then get it re-pierced in the original position it was in?

You did not say what the gauge of the barbell is, but we can assume from what is happening that it is a 14g barbell.

This is thin enough to move the barbell with the playing that you are doing to the piercing.   We also believe that you have a long shaft and the leverage does not help with the playing and all the movement that is happening.

Since we cannot see the piercing and do not know the extent of the damage, part of the cut in the tongue could be permenant and if you attempted to pierce it in the original location, it may again move forward.  We cannot say for certain.

All we can suggest is that you get a fitted shaft and this will help reduce the amount of playing.  We also recommend getting a 12g barbell to help stop the cutting forward.

Good luck
