so I just recently got my belly button pierced for the second time last tuesday. i took it out the first time because my mom made me...so i recently got it done again and the piercer pierced it in a different area to avoid scar tissue...but the first time i had no complications.

however, this time i have bruising around the top ball and for the last few days it has not stopped bleeding and now i have had it over a week. ive been cleaning it with a special antimicromal soap that the piercing place sells but i read on other posts you do not reccomend other cleaning but water in the shower..i also made the mistake of using dial soap before i got the other stuff and the H2Ocean...i also messed up because i thought i was infected and used rubbing alchohol 3x.

now i dont plan on using anything after reading what you wrote..but can you explain why it is still bruised and is bleeding? it also tends to be itchy.

It sounds like you have been pierced with a barbell.  Barbells have no room to accommodate for swelling.  It also depends on the skill of the piercer and if they are not competent, they can bruise you with the clamps (if they squeezed your skin too hard).

Why its still bleeding and painful is because the barbell is unable to accommodate for the swelling and this is putting a lot of pressure on your tissues.  The products you have been using have also added to the irritation so that body is unable to dissipate the swelling because you keep irritating the tissues.

The H2Ocean is basically salt water and this is a harsh product, we cannot comment on the soap the shop sold you as we have not heard of this product.  The rubbing alcohol just added more irritation to the piercing and these things in combination could be the possible reason for the itchy.  It could also tell us that you are starting to develop an infection, if the piercing is becoming too warm to the touch and you have a greenish discharge.

Please just soap around the navel in the shower and let the water run over the piercing.  The running soap and water will get into the piercing and rinse out most of the dirt.  At this stage, cleaning is only going to make matters more difficult and the swelling must be reduced.

Keep an eye on the itchy sensation and if the piercing becomes hot and green puss, please seek medical attention.

Let us know how you are progressing.

I listened to all of your advice and you were right. I stopped using all the other products and the bruising went away and the bleeding stopped and so did the itchy sensation.

But now i developed a little bump on the left side of the top ball...and i read what you wrote for other posts that its do to over cleaning and irritation from moving or playing with the piercing too much...i put another post up about that one....so im guessing i should let it be not wash it in the shower and not wear pants that might irritate it and the bump will dissipate and dissapear.

thanks so much for your advice it was a real help.

Glad that you took our advice and we are very sorry that it was not in time and you developed the bump.

Please leave it alone and try not to irritate the piercing.

If you do not see any improvement in about 2 weeks, then please write back privately.
