I've had my navel piercing for a week now starting today, and there were no problems until yesterday. Yesterday it started to become red around the top hole, whitish liquid is coming out of it, at times it hurts, and sometimes it itches.
I don't know if this is because of overcleaning. I'm doing exactly what the piercer said. He told me to spray that H2Ocean on it 3-6 times a day, but he recommended 6. He told me to use nothing else. Also he said to use a Q-tip to remove the crusties.
I forgot to add I have a surgical steel barbell. I hope you can help me. Thanks =)
Do you use H2Ocean to clean the rest of your body? Probably not! Why, because it is not a cleaning agent it is salt water. This product, as far as we are concerned, is not a good product for any piercing. It is harsh and dries out the tissues in the fresh piercing.
Please STOP using this product and just wash around the navel area in the morning with soap and water (liquid soap, like softsoap). Just let warm water run over the piercing. Afterwards, take a Q-tip and remove any crusties that have formed without moving the barbell too much.
The other problem is that you were pierced with a barbell and this makes cleaning even more difficult and this is part of the reason it hurts from time to time. We will assume that you move the barbell up and down when cleaning. This does damage to the tissues, so again, just leave it alone.
The whitish fluid is the body fighting the irritation that was being caused by the salt water. So it will start to reduce as you leave it alone and allow the body to heal itself.
See how it feels in a week and if you still have problems, please write back.
Thank you so much :). I'll write back if there are any further problems.
Keep in touch with your progress.
It's been a month. It's helped alot, but this morning something happened. I woke up, took a shower. I washed with dial, like I usually do. I was about to get dressed and my belly started oozing this yellowish whitish discharge. It's not really red at all nor does it hurt.
Is this a sign of infection? If so what should I do? Write back please.
Thanks so much.
You have not used the H2Ocean product and you followed our recommendation by cleaning around the piercing and not moving the barbell when you shower. If you have done all this and you just had a yellowish discharge, then you are somehow still irritating it.
Do you sleep on your tummy? Do you wear clothing around the piercing and its rubbing it from time to time? We need to know what you are currently doing to cause this reaction. The more information you can give us, the better we can help.
Yes I've stopped using the H2Ocean. I've been cleaning with Dial In the shower. I don't move the barbell when I shower. It only moves when I sit down.
I don't sleep on my tummy. I do sometimes, but most times I don't. I've stopped wearing big shirts and I've been wearing more form fitting ones.
One question we forgot to ask you before. Is the barbell a good fit or does it move up and down (you can see some barbell if you stand up straight and look into a mirror).
If this is true, then sleeping on your tummy with the barbell moving could be enough to irritate. Try and not sleep on your tummy and if the barbell is now long, please find a better fitting one. This will help reduce the leverage and stop it from moving too much.
