Hello there. I just recently got my navel pierced 4 days ago from today, Feb. 20. Around the top hole there is red, and there is yellowish stuff coming out of the top hole. I think it may be infected, but all my friends told me otherwise. They think its not infected. They told me, that .. I just got a needle stuck through my stomach, so obviously theres going to be a little red, im not superman. So, from what i've told you.. does this sound like the beginning of an infection?

You have not given us enough information to determine if you have an infection or not.

What is your aftercare?  How often and what products are you using and how often?  Were you pierced with a ring or barbell?

The more information you can give us the better we can help you.

Well, its been a week since i got it pierced. one the first two days i cleaned once in the morning and once at night with soft soap, then afterwards polysporin. On the third day to the eighth, i continued my cleanings except i didnt use the polysporin. I am now down to cleaning once a day, because i followed the instrustions and got "lazy" as they phrased it. And now.. Around the top hole the skin is red, and coming out of the piercing is yellowish stuff , but only from the top hole. And my belly button ring always gets stuck from that, and i have to tug a little bit from the yellowish stuff making it sticky.

If you were pierced at Blackstar, please go and see them directly as seeing the piercing is extremely helpful in understanding whats going on with it.

If not, we need to know if you sleep on your tummy?  Do you have a ring or barbell?

We recommend doing warm water compress for about 10 minutes to soften the yellowish stuff so that you can take a Q-tip and remove them without doing any damage to the piercing.  There is a possibility that it is dry and when you 'tug' you irritate it and therefore have these problems.

The more information you can give us will be extremely helpful in helping you resolve these issues.

You are describing some very normal things that can happen with a fresh piercing.  We do recommend coming into the shop (at your convenience) so that a piercer can take a look and see how its doing.

We are open on Saturday's from 10 am to 6 pm.  You do not need an appointment.

From what you wrote, you do not have an infection, just irritated.  Follow our recommendations and see how that feels and come in when you can.
