I got my lip pierced yesterday form a reputable piercer in my area.

It was a bit sore on the day and by the looks of your responses to everyone else, I

a) Should stop using a saline solution to treat it

and

b) Not clean it so often.

I'm just wondering, because I woke up this morning and my lip was a tad swollen and sore, I looked in the mirror and noticed this inside of my lip was a bit bruised and there was a small bit of torn skin on the inside of my lip, causing a small amount of bleeding. I'm sure it's fine I'd just like to make sure.

I also have a few questions.

My piercer told me it's fine to smoke as long as I keep it clean, is this correct? And I'm wondering if it's ok to kiss my girlfriend?

So, how often should I clean it, and should I clean it after smoking?

edit - and is it meant to be sore to touch? I'm shit scared of infection, how will I know?

Please follow our aftercare for the lip piercing.  Please stop using the salt water as this does more damage to the delicate tissues of the lip.

You did not inform us of how often you clean the piercing, we recommend our aftercare.

You also did not tell us what type of jewellery you have inserted in the piercing; ring or barbell type, and the gauge 16g or 14g.  If you were pierced with anything 16g, you may have tearing as this gauge is too thin.  We use 14g and this problem is not present at our shop.

You can smoke and you do not have to clean after every smoke.  You can kiss your girlfriend as long as it does not hurt or irritate your piercing.

If you have green, foul smelling pus coming from the piercing, its extremely hot to touch; then get yourself to the doctor as you probably have an infection.
