Hi, i have had my piercing on for about 3 months. i have the original jewllery, which was a stud, its a really long one. Anyways its a bit too long now that the swelling went down so i went to hottopic and bought another piece.
It comes with three lengths. the same size as i have now, the middle sized one and the shortest one. When i tried the shortest one, its not comfortable at all because the inner circle imprints and burrows into my lip. So i tried the medium one and it feels a bit better yet still very much burrows under the skin.
is this something i should take into consideration and just not wear the stud? or is there a stud that i can purchase else where? or maybe a different kind of design? i usually wear the lip ring or the longest stud because of the fear of the burrowing to get worse.
now having the long one isnt that comfortable either, BECAUSE i have so much play that i am constantly moving it in and out and or it bumps up against my teeth and i tend to continue playing with it which it then gets slightly irritated.
i would appreciate any sort of answer. or maybe lengths i can try out.

What you may have done is to irritate it by changing it too often. Inserting the shortest may have started a little swelling and you did not put the original one back in and waited a few days to try the medium sized one. You may have just irritated it enough that you needed to put back the original one. Now that the swelling has reduced itself again, the long one is now bothering you.
We recommend inserting the medium sized one. This should fit now and not burrow into your tissues. Also, you have to not play with it as this may increase the swelling again. You have to remember that it takes any piercing a full year to completely heal. During this time, you can irritate it and it will respond.
The sizes available are fixed and if you need to have a custom fitted one, you will need to find a place to get it properly measured and then have one made. Too many places do not provide such service. We do at our shop, but we find that the medium length generally fits most.
