Labret Problem

Hi, I have had a labret piercing for a little over a year now.  For the most part I haven't had any problems.

Recently I've been getting some pain and swelling, and my mouth has become very swollen around the piercing and the back stud of the piercing is starting to burrow itself inside of my inner lip.  I tried looking at it this morning and I could see a bit of blood pooling, This is concerning me a lot!

I have a feeling that my piercing is too small to allow for this kind of swelling.  It's really strange since I haven't had this problem since I really got my piercing.  I'm not sure what my next steps should be, I am willing to leave my piercing behind but with the back of the piercing starting to burrow I'm not sure how easy it will be for the piercer to remove it.

What will happen if the skin completely covers the back of the piercing? I just took an ibuprofin to help reduce the swelling but I'm really worried.

Have you changed the jewellery in the last couple of weeks?  Did you get hit in the face?  From what you wrote, and our understanding is that you have not changed the original piercing shaft.

If this is correct, then something has happened recently. You will have to think about what you have done to yourself in the last couple of weeks.  Something has happened!

We do not want you to lose this piercing and inserting a longer piece of jewellery should help take the pressure off.  Once the piercing has recovered from this event, then you can insert the other jewellery.

Good luck and keep in touch
