Labret - Is this normal?

The back of my lip, where the flatback of my labret rests, has gone down. What I mean is, the skin has been depressed where the labret is.

Every other part of the inside of my lip looks fine, except there's an indent in the shape and size of the back of my labret. That part is a little tender. I haven't been able to find if this is normal, so I'm asking here.

I've had the  piercing for about a week now.  My cleaning includes: cleaning the outside with piercing soap once a day. Brushing twice daily, and rinsing with an alcohol free mouthwash.

You did not tell us how many times you rinse.  You also did not tell us how long the indent was present.  Did the labret shaft fit nicely when first inserted or did you have some leverage?  Is it tight now?

To find what our aftercare is, please go to our aftercare section and look it up.  Please do not start from the beginning, but from week 2.

Please give us as much information so that we can better assist you.

I apologize. I rinse once or twice daily. The indent (as far as I'm aware, I'm not a very observant person) has been present since the second day. The shaft did fit nicely, and it's not loose at all.

It's quite a long bar, actually.  Other than the indent, my lip is healing nicely.  A few crusties, and vertually no pain.

The problem with starting with a labret for a lip piercing is that the shaft is never long enough to accommodate for all the swelling.  Lips seem to swell more.

Since you say that the shaft was a nice fit when the piercing was done, we are very certain that the length is the main cause of your problems.  If you can get a longer shaft, or insert a ring for about 2-3 weeks, and then you can re-insert your shaft, that would be ideal.

Stop doing anything at all to your piercing.  The more you bother it, the longer it will take for the swelling to dissipate.

i have a problem with that as well, with an indent. but when i look at it in the mirror almost the whole flat part of the stud, on the inside of my mouth, is covered from swelling. and hurts.

It could be that the shaft is too short.  You could try to get a longer piece and see if that takes the pressure off the piercing.

We discussed this in your other thread.  Please read.
