So I have had my belly-button pierced for 3 weeks and it is healing well i went to the piercers to get it checked and it was healing better then average. So i changed it from a ring to a barbell; the ring was uncomfortable.
It has been a week it still looks healthy. But what are the dangers, if it gets infected what should i do. I'm taking very good care but im just wondering.
At our shop, we wait a full 6 weeks before changing the jewellery because we want the granulation tissue to have a started forming around the piercing. Changing it too early may irritate that delicate tissue and could cause you some problems in the next couple of weeks.
As well, changing the jewellery will not cause an infection but you may become irritated. To help reduce this risk, please stop cleaning or doing anything to your piercing; not even in the shower. Just let the warm water run over the piercing and the water will release anything inside.
If you see green puss and a foul smell from the piercing, then you have an infection and should see medical attention. A white to yellowish puss is normal and something is just irritating the piercing. This is where we can assist you if this does develop.
