My ear doesnt hurt anymore. We are NOT cleaning it. It hasnt had crusties since we went to the pool on sunday. (Horrible to think they were floating around the pool, but it closed for the season the next day). I'm very happy with how it has healed.

I can find any captive bead ring earrings that arent 18 gauge. I think mine are 20 or something. Can i still use 18's?

Glad to read that your ears are doing better.

Yes, you can use the 18g captive bead rings.  There is not much of a difference that you would notice it in your ears.

Again, glad to have helped.

You have not told us what you were pierced with, what your aftercare is was and what products you are using?

Without some information, we are unable to help you.

Sadly i was pierced with a gun. I am using the Claire's aftercare stuff they gave me. Only one of my ears hurts. I think the earring might be too tight.

When i turn the earring it hurts.

Update:

My Mom took the infected earring out and some crusties or scabs or whatever came out and it bled a little. On the back of my ear where the earring back was, my skin is raw.

My mom put neosporin on it and put different earrings in looser. It fells very tender now. I assume it will have to go through the healing process again. What do you recommend for aftercare?

Well it does not surprise us that you are having such problems with your piercings when done with a gun.

The solution that Claire's provides is nothing more than alchol and all that does is dries out the tissues.

Your complaint about the rawness in the back of the lobe is a common problem.  The butterfly in the back is not made of a good material (mostly gold plated nickel) so many people are nickel sensitive.  This is generally what occurs when done with a gun.

You did not tell us what type of jewellery it was changed to, we would strongly suggest putting in captive bead rings which are made of surgical stainless steel.  This will help reduce any reaction that may occur with other type of jewellery.

As with any piercing, it takes a full year for it to completely heal.  Since you have had problems, it will just take a little longer as you will have to heal the damage caused by the jewellery.

Since your piercings are over 6 weeks old, there is NO aftercare.  All you need to do is leave them alone so that they can heal.  At this point, if you do too much to them, they will become more irritated and cause more problems.

The neosporin after changing the earrings was a very good idea but this product has a barrier effect which may not be what you need for the area.  Our suggestion is to let your mom look at your ears every day and see if they are getting better.  If there is no improvement, then we suggest seeking medical advice.

There are crusties in my ear and it hurts again. Should i have my mom take the earring out and clean it daily?

Actually, now that i examine my ear more carefully, it only hurts where the butterfly back was. I think it will heal over time. Still, i am wondering if i should take it out and clean it...

We are glad that they are feeling better.  If the earrings that you currently have on have butterfly backs, we strongly recommend changing the jewellery to captive bead rings or something with hoops so that the back of your ear will heal better.

Please do NOT clean your ears, if you develop crusties, take a warm cloth an put on top of the ear.  Once the crusties are soften, take a Q-tip and remove them.  Do NOT anything on them otherwise.
