I got my navel pierced about 6 months ago, could be a little longer. This is actually my second piercing, the first one I had I took out and let close up. I never had a problem with my first piercing, I just took it out. This newer piercing was done a little above and to the side of my old one.
In any event, it took awhile for this piercing to heal, it was very red and sore with puss for a long time. My cleaning regime included using Dial Soap and that H2 Ocean. After finishing that bottle of H2 Ocean, my piercing still hurt and was pussing. So, I used Bactine and it seemed to help. Finally the puss stopped and the redness and soreness went away.
Now, as of a few days ago, my belly button is SO SORE, RED, and it has a little soft bump next to the top hole. The puss is coming out of the bottom, it almost looks like dried blood because it is dark, not green though. It could be bleeding from irritation, I don't know. It just hurts really bad and looks swollen I think. I want to just get rid of this piercing already I think.
Should I take it out? Please help! What should I do? Would taking it out help this "infection" or whatever, go away?
I appreciate any advice I can get!
If you have read some of the other responses, you would know that H2 Ocean is just salt water and its very harsh and dries out the tissues. You also used Bactine and the manufacturer has stated on their website that this product was NOT to be used on any piercings. It is very drying and again harsh on the delicate tissues are trying to form.
This is probably why your tissues have become so sore and red. You have severely irritated them with all these products and the tissues cannot tolerate it anymore. If there is blood, then the damage is high. Aftercare is only supposed to last for 2-3 weeks, not 6+ months.
We do not want you to lose this piercing and we recommend that you take a warm cloth and place on the swollen tissues. The idea is to bring to the surface the fluid inside and hope that the body will pop it on its own (please do NOT do this yourself, let the body).
This is not an infection, its just irritated and we need to rid your body of the irritant and the body will start to heal itself. Do not move or turn the ring even in the shower. Remove any crusties that may be formed with a Q-tip and try not to move the ring when doing this. Best time to perform this is after your shower when the crusties are soft.
Do not use any product at all on your piercing. When showering, do not soap, but let warm water run over the piercing. That is all you have to do, the water will get into the tissues and flush out any bacteria.
Keep in touch.
