I got my tongue pierced on Dec 16th. I used TopCare mouth wash mint flavored diluted 1 2 and 1 2 In the morning, and after every meal and before bed. Brushing my teeth twice a day. My tongue is whiteish yellowish in color from the piercing back. Just this alst weekend, I got a bit tipsy and open mouth kissed my husband and gave him oral. I was also told to cut down to rinsing twice a day. Now today I noticed that on the top of my tongue coming from the piercing is a little whiteish yellow discharge. And my lower ball is covered in a white shell. I have tried to brush the white shell of the bottom ball. I got some off but not all of it. My piercer said to keep my original barbell in for 4 weeks. What do you think I should do? I am now rinsing a bit more again, I do not want an infection. This is my second attempt at this. I want a tongue ring badly! My first one I have to take out within 10 days, the lady that did it, admitted that she hit the muscle and might have hit the vein a bit. It was very painful... But this one was fine, until today. And it is not sore to speak of. What should I do? Do you want me to send a photo of what it looks like? Help.....I was also on Keflex for Strep from the Monday after I got my piercing until last Thursday....
If you have an infection, rinsing more with your product will NOT prevent an infection; so please do not increase rinsing as its not doing you any benefit but hindering the healing process.
The yellowish discharge is possibly from over-rinsing and how you were rinsing. Diluting is not helpful. Please check out our aftercare for the tongue and see the difference. Do NOT start doing our aftercare as you are more than 3 weeks into the piercing.
The white stuff on the bottom is part of the healing process and just let it form and it will fall off and then stop on its own. If you continue to irritate it, you will have more forming and delay the healing.
Because we cannot see it, we will recommend you going to a doctor or at least a pharmacist to see your tongue. You did not describe thrush but you did get Strep and you should make sure that it did not become Thrush.
