i got my industrial done with a barbell yesterday afternoon and it pretty much bled until early evening. it stopped and then started up again after dinner, stopped and again at 2-3 in the morning.
i've done cold water soaks, epson sea salt soaks. all the jazz, but it still continues to bleed on and off. its starting up again and i dont know if it's "normal". when i say bleeding, i mean dripping.
how was it for everyone else? what can i do to stop the bleeding?
any help would be appreciated!
No, its not normal for you to be bleeding like you are experiencing. We need to know some answers before we can help resolve the issue.
Are you a vegetarian? Do you take any medications, if so, what? Do you take asprins regularly? Are you diabetic?
Too much bleeding could also be caused by the barbell and how it was inserted. If you can send us a picture that would help some.
i take birth control pills, alesse to be exact. no aspirin, i know that those can act as bloodthinners. i just remembered my family doctor mentioning that i have mild thalessemia (apparently alot of asians have it?), but she said that it was nothing to worry about.
i'm suspecting that the bar is too short and isn't accomodating the swelling. i pretty much have a "timeline" in pictures of how my piercing is right now.
after it stopped, it was fine after the nightly cleaning and sea salt soak and morning cleaning soaking. it was fine for the whole of today until dinner when the bottom hole started again. the bottom one keeps bleeding on me.
i hope it's close to the normal healing process?
i'm going to another piercer for a second opinion just to see if it's doing ok. the bleeding is a really big issue with me. i would like to get the bar taken out and get either small barbells or captive bead rings put in to help it heal better. all that seems to bleed is the lower piercing, so i think its the swelling that's causing the ball to push up into the cartiledge.
would it be ok to put in new jewellery after 3-4 days? this bar is getting uncomfortable at times.
i use spectro gel to clean, and sea salt to soak. both were recommended in the piercing aftercare sheet given to me.
The problems are you experiencing is why we do not start with a barbell but use 2 separate captive bead rings so that the body can heal without putting any pressure on the other piercing.
Bleeding is a big concern for us as you are bleeding excessively. Part of the problem is your aftercare, salt water is not a cleaning agent and is harsh on fresh piercings. The other problem is that you have bleeding only on one end not both.
After discussing and showing your pictures, it is the opinion of our jewellery tech that there is probably something very wrong with the barbell. Either there is a threading exposed and as it rubs on the tissues, it breaks skin causing the bleeding. The barbell could have a bur or damage to it that is rough and it is rubbing against your skin causing the bleeding. Without seeing the jewellery, these are assumptions.
We do agree that you should remove the barbell and get captive bead rings in place and allow the body to heal the piercings. We also do not want you to clean these piercings with anything except maybe some warm water to soften any crusties that may become formed.
Keep us informed with your progress.
thanks for the advice
i got it looked at by a second piercer the day after i last posted. she gave it a good cleaning, got off all the crusties and it didn't bleed at all during the cleaning. it wasn't very painful too.
she suspects that it might have been because i was too scared to clean off the crusties that when i moved around, the crusties pulled on the hole and caused it to bleed.
i haven't had any problems anymore. just a little bit of swelling. how long does that usually last for?
Glad that you went to a piercer and she was able to look at the piercing.
Swelling generally takes about 2-4 weeks to completely dissipate from any piercing. When you irritate them this can go for about 2 more weeks.
Each person is different. All we can say is that now that you have found the problem, lets hope that you will not irritate it anymore and the piercing will heal.
