I have a cold with my piercing!

I got my nose pierced a few months ago and I have my first official cold with the nose piercing.  I also have the dreaded "bump" which seems to go down when I do the warm compresses or run warm water over the spot in the shower for several minutes.

I had to blow my nose a couple times, trying to be ever-so-careful, but I think I might have irritated it.  When I woke up this morning, I had dried up blood and pus around my piercing.  Not to mention, the area around my piercing is red.  I cleaned it with some saline solution to get the crusties off (which I have only used WHEN there are crusties present), which seems to help.

Should I be worried that there is an infection?  It doesn't hurt at all, so I don't think I have one.  Also, is this normal when you have a nose piercing and a cold at the same time?  Any advice?

Hi. I don't know why the mods haven't written in a while, but just so you don't irritate your piercing more try not to clean it with anything but your normal face cleanser. As for the cold it is probably no related to you piercing, try to use a q-tip to get out the snot in your nose. I wouldn't blow it because even that can irritate your piercing. Try and leave the bump completely alone and it should start to go away. You can continue the warm compresses if that's helping though.

Hope this helped some. It's basically just the same advice throughout the site. Don't freak out about it...try and let it heal itself.

Thanks Kailee for the advice.

If you are blowing your nose so much that you have bleeding, then you may want to add a humidifier to your home it could be too dry for you.

Saline solution or salt water is drying to the tissues and this could be causing you some difficulties.  Even though you seem to use it when the problems arise, it is a catch-22 situation.  When you use it, the tissues become dry.  Dry enough to make it bleed.

Try to just do warm water compresses otherwise, leave it alone.
