Hypergranulation

I got a vertical clitoral hood piercing about 5 weeks ago and everything was healing great until about half way through the third week.

I'm a dancer and I have to wear some restrictive costumes, which coincided with the third week.  I have this tube shaped piece of tissue growing under the hood and I've been told that it's hypergranulation and is caused by friction and moisture.  I really do not want to get rid of this piercing but I also can't stop wearing the costume for another month.  I was wondering if there is anything that I can do to get rid of the tissue.  I've had my jewellery downsized but it doesn't seem to have made a difference.

I was told that sea salt soaks, hydrocortisone cream, tea tree oil and or hydrogen peroxide may help but I'm kind of weary on trying these things because I've also heard that they could make the problem worse.

Any information or suggestions on this topic would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

An idea that will work is to change the jewellery to a J-barbell and if you cannot find such a piece a bent barbell should work as well.  This would reduce the friction which is the main reason you are having problems with your piercing.

With respect to the products you were told to use on your piercing, please DO NOT USE THEM.  These products are not good for your piercing, hydrocortisone will cause you problems later on in life (one of its side effects is releasing calcium from within the bones).

Salt water is very harsh on a fresh piercing and this would dry out the tissues and this would increase the friction.  Tea tree oil is more of an antifungal product and at this point would not really be beneficial to your piercing.

Hydrogen peroxide is a product that kills all tissues, healthy or not so if you use this not only will it sting quite a lot, it will damage the delicate tissues in the area.

We believe that changing the jewellery will be the simpliest solution for you.
