I just wanted to know what the chances are of a hood piercing being rejected or migrating, if you have had problems in the past with migrating piercings. I currently have my navel pierced and in the last 6 months it has gone down from a 10 mil to a 5.
I have been advised of the proceedure for trying to keep it and that if it gets worse to take it out. but I wanted to know what the chances are of a Hood piercing doing the same thing. note I am a bigger built woman.
From our experience, a hood piercing is less likely to migrate as long as the jewellery used is a 12 gauge ring.
We have found that genital piercings done with 12 gauge are more stable because the thicker gauge is more rounded reducing the sharpness and therefore the mechanical breakdown is less frequent.
Each piercing is to be taken individually, you could have several piercings that do not give you any problems and the latest one migrates. Why the navel piercing has begun to migrate will depend on what you are doing to the piercing and what products you are using on it.
We have found that once migration has begun, and the mechanical issues are not resolved, the piercing will be lost. Our philosophy is to remove the issues and leave the piercing alone. Changing the jewellery to a shorter length to reduce the stress of a long barbell will also help stop migration. Other than that, we know of no 'procedure'.
Hope we have helped.
