I just got my first Oral Piercing about 3 days ago to be exact. It's a 16 gauge ring. I've been doing the Seasalt Treatment about once a day, and Rinsing the outside of the ring with a soft QTip. I also drink plenty of water although I have caught myself drinking Caffeinated Drinks as well.
Though Today I noticed that the inside of my mouth hurt. I took a closer look inside to realize that there is a small white spot. There is a small white area around my ring, but I believe that is the tissue and it is normal in the first week or so of healing.
But this one is not around the piercing. It's a bit down lower. In a sense it kind of looks like a blister or a sore. The piercing itself does not hurt, but this "sore" does.
Being so early in the healing process, I was wondering if this was an early sign of infection. My piercer gave me aftercare; but no information on signs of Infection. If it is, is it from the Caffeine I drank? And I was wondering if there were any solutions to prevent from getting worse.
Please help, I appreciate any feedback I get.
i have kind of the same problem, but i have have mine done for 10 months. 4 days after i got in done i went to an A7X concert and got kicked in the head. It ripped my ring down and the inside of my lip was bad. It's gotten much much better but now i have white almost all the way around the stud (on the inside). AND my lip in still swellen. Now that i have to wear a stud, because of work, it has become swellen (sp, sorry) even more and hurts again.....someone help us PLEASE!!

Your main problem is that you were pierced with a 16g which is extremely thin and will migrate in a lip piercing (we have seen it happen just as you are.) If you can get a 14g inserted, you may have a chance of stopping the problem.
We also recommend you STOP using salt water treatment as this just dries out the tissues and makes the skin go white. You do not have to be too concerned with caffeinated drinks etc., good nutrition is important.
You do not have an infection, you probably play with this piercing each time you eat or lick your lips.

If you got kicked in the head and it actually injured your piercing, this will explain why you are still having such problems. Swelling in oral piercings tell us that you are not eating properly as swelling is the first signs of malnutrition. You are possibly playing with it in some way and we recommend you become aware of what you are doing and try to leave it alone so that it can heal.
We recommend taking an anti-inflamatory to help reduce the swelling a little bit. What type of stud are you wearing in your lip and does it get caught in your teeth (is it a labret stud)?
