Helix Problems

Near the middle of July I got my Helix pierced by a reputable piercer (it wasn't Blackstar). I followed the cleaning instructions given to me, using unscented antibacterial for the first 2 weeks and then stop cleaning it. The first night I had it I went to an overnight horse show and slept in the trailer. The next day the piercing was swollen up right tight against the earing and a dent was in my ear. I cleaned it (it was very painful to move). It stayed like this for about 3 days then went down. It was feeling fine until lately. Now on the back at thee base of the earing coming out it is swollen up and is tight against the piercing, my dad looked at it and said that it looked like a pimple or boil. What is this?

I went to my doctor and he told me to do saline solution and peroxide but I know that you are not supposed to do this because it is hard on the piercing. What can I do to get rid of this lump? Just warm water compresses until it goes away??

It sounds like you have a stud or a barbell. Even if it is a ring, switch to a ring which is large enough to be worn without the tissues being uptight against the jewelry. If there is a build up of fluid or pus, a stud will not let the piercing drain, and the pressure will cause bruising, and more swelling.

Never let the jewelry become uncomfortable to wear. If you do have a problem, switch the jewelry until the problem has been taken care of.
