I felt I should post to all about the great advice Blackstar is giving everyone. I stumbled upon this site when I had a bump that kept flaring up for 2 months since I got mine pierced.
I had my nose pierced by a very reputable and clean piercer in my city on July 31st of this year. The only advice my piercer gave me is to clean the piercing ONLY if the dried blood built up too much with water and antibacterial soap...and he told me the best thing is to not really touch the piercing, just let the warm water run over it while showering. Well, I did just that but found myself like others here who have posted about overcleaning figuring I want it to heal healthily.
Within 2 or 3 weeks the famous bump appeared, it would flare up, then go down but never completely go away. So that made me clean even more; stupid me. Finally a couple weeks ago it flared up so bad and became VERY infected where infection spread throughout my sinuses and down into my glands on my neck. I went to my piercer and showed him and he told me to go to my doctor right away. The doctor took one look and gave me an antibiotic perscription, one that was strong that would treat the infection, and within 3 days my bump dried up, fell off, and today you would never even know I had a problem. The skin around the piercing is very healthy again and I am so happy!
I have done nothing more to do with cleaning or Q-tips(except to use instead of blowing my nose) to my piercing and never want that bump to make it's appearance again. I quit fiddling with it most of all try not to pick your nose since you should'nt even blow it!
I just wanted to throw in my 2 cents here to let everyone know what you guys on this site are telling people about just leaving the piercing alone and not to put ANYTHING on it is the BEST advice.
It is GREAT to have a site to come to when we have problems and Blackstar knows what they are talking about. Leave your piercings alone, don't overclean; don't use antibacterial ANYTHING and you'll have a healthy piercing!
Good luck to you all who are still having problems. I really feel for you since I have been there myself and hope your bumps and piercings heal, and they will, without doing a thing to them. I thought I would have to remove my screw and let my nose heal itself, but I don't have to go to that extreme.
Take care
