since i posted last time asking about cleaning methods, i asked my piercer about it and he said it was migrating and i should put a plastic bar through to stop it.
im confused about what to do now. should i stop cleaning it and leave it be or change the jewelry?
Please keep this in the same thread as it makes it difficult to follow your history if you start another thread; just respond to this and it will remain together.
Changing the material from metal to plastic, will NOT change the effect of migration. It is the cleaning and as long as you have not stopped doing that, then you have no hope of keeping the piercing.
Salt water no matter what form is not healthy for any piercing (saline solution, sea salt or table salt). It dries out the tissues and your piercer has made it worse by increasing the frequency and time. The more times you use it and the long periods of it in the salt water, will only breakdown the tissues that much faster. We have read and helped many people out and most of their problems were based on overcleaning and using harsh products that caused their piercings to eventually migrate.
We understand your predicament but all we can do is strongly recommend. You are the one who has to make the decision.

thanks for the help but i have one more question.
not even a week ago, i took a Q-tip with saline solution to the piercing to try to get some of the crusties off it. while i was doing it, one of the holes ripped open and the piercing was just hanging there by one hole.
I freaked out and went down to my piercer who took it out and put polysporin and a bandaid on it. im just wondering if he should have cut it or ripped it out instead of just removing it. if there is anything i should look out for?
Sorry that you lost your piercing, but that is a general problem with nape piercings.
Overcleaning is something that has to be watched with this piercing and if you clean for too long or use harsh products like salt water, then your odds of maintaining this piercing is greatly reduced.
Your piercer did the correct steps by just removing the piercing and allowing the body to heal the damage. If you would have torn the balance, you would have done more damage to the area.
