I've had my tongue piercing for nearly a year now, and it seems to have taken quite a toll on my gums, specifically around the back of my lower front teeth. Over time the skin gum tissue has began to receed, and I'm very worried about it.
I believe it to be my own fault, since I kept in a lengthy barbell shaft longer than I should have. Sadly, I know that this means I will probably have to remove my piercing and get my gums regraphed.
Basically, I want to know what causes something like this to happen, what I should do about it, and how, if I do choose to get my tongue repierced, I can take precautions to make sure this doesn't happen again (or at least there being a better chance that it won't).
Thank you so much!
Basically, its your own fault for not getting a fitted shaft after about 3 weeks of the piercing swelling dissipating. The long shaft has damaged teeth and gums for too many people.
You do not have to lose your piercing but get a fitted shaft so that the balls hug your tongue just enough so that there is not much play in the barbell and this will keep it away from the gums and teeth.
You may have to get some work done on your gums, we cannot comment as we are not dentists. Go see your dentist and see what can be done.
Get the shorter shaft and stop over playing with the barbell.
