We received an email from a piercer stating that he recommended 'contact solution' for use in aftercare. He suggested we use it for our aftercare. We investigated the ingredients online and found the following information.
The indication for contact solution is to remove protein, clean, rinse, disinfect, store; keeps soft contact lenses fresh and comfortable every day.
First of all, you do not have protein on the top layers of your skin so the solution is not going to really be doing anything to the piercing.
The ingredients of some products that we found are:
POLYQUAD; Sodium Citrate; Tetronic; Pationic; Sodium Chloride; Borates; Mannitol Disodium; Edetate Disodium
Phosphate; Potassium Chloride; Sodium Chloride; Edetate Disodium; Poloxamer 237; Lubricant HPMC (Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose); PHMB (Polyhexamethylene Biguanide 0.0001%)
Bausch & Lomb makes a contact solution that states on its package:
For use during heat (thermal) disinfection, rinsing and storage of soft contact lenses.
Ingredients Boric Acid; Sodium Chloride; Thimerosal 0.001%; Edetate Disodium
Warning: This product contains thimerosal to which some people are allergic. Do not use this product if you are allergic to any of its ingredients. NEVER RE-USE BAUSCH & LOMB PRESERVED SALINE SOLUTION.
There is an ingredient that the company is warning about. Most of the ingredients are an acid base and this is not suitable for piercings.
He might have been lucky with his piercings, but in reality these products have ingredients that will not be good for most piercings.
Thanks for the suggestion but we will stick to our simple, liquid anti-bacterial soap and water.
