I've had my belly button piercing for two weeks now. I used an antiseptic spray called "biseptine". I've stopped the aftercare as I was instructed by my piercer and now all I do is apply warm water and clean with a Q-tip and sometimes use a solution called "serum physiologique" in French (sorry don't know what it's called in English).
I noticed however this morning that my piercing (at the top) looks very dry and there's sign of peeling skin. Is this normal?
There's little pus from time to time but nothing serious. It doesn't hurt at all and it's neither swollen nor red. It's not tender to the touch; I feel just fine.
Just want to know if the peeling skin is normal and the dryness too.
THANKS A BUNCH!
We do not recognize the products that you used for your aftercare. We do know that after 2 weeks, you no longer need to clean or move the jewellery.
Just letting warm water run over the piercing and then removing any crusties with a Q-tip is exactly what we would recommend for any crusties after the 2 weeks. We do not believe that you need to use any other product including the serum physiologique because from what we could find, this product is basically salt water (saline solution) and is NOT appropriate for any piercing. This product dries out the tissues and explains the dryness and peeling.
Please stop using any product but continue the warm water and Q-tip to remove the crusties.
Oh thanks but now I have another problem.
My piercing hurts slightly when I run or sit in certain positions. I'm scared I might not be able to do sports when the time comes (which is VERY VERY soon!)
When I shower and I touch it a little bit, it hurts at the middle and it's slightly swollen.
It didn't hurt in the first two weeks and this sudden tenderness is giving me concern. I went to my piercer today to ask her what the problem is and she said it might just be that I laid on it or stressed the tissues a bit too much and that it'll stop hurting in about a week or so.
But, I just want to here your own opinion. What do you say? Is my piercing still ok?
NOTE: I didn't like the dryness because it makes my piercing look ugly so I tried applying moisturizer with a Q tip. I use Cocoa Butter cream. I don't know if that's a good or bad idea. What do you think?
You have not told us what type of jewellery you have in your navel. Is it a ring or barbell? Do you sleep on your tummy? Can you be more specific as to which positions specifically that you do that hurt you.
It could very well be from sleeping on it or bumping it with either clothing or a belt buckle etc. You were specific on certain positons and not all movement that really hurt so it may be something else, but we need more information before we can say.
With regards to the moisturizer, Cocoa butter is a good cream just be careful not to over use it. Just morning and night application; and ONLY if its dry.
The pain is no longer there. I really dont know what happened but it just seemed to disappear.
There's absolutely no problem anymore and I'm really glad!
Thanks for your help!
We are very happy to read that your piercing is now doing well.
Take care
