Hi Blackstar! I have been reading your site since I got pierced and it has helped me so much, so, thank you!
I got my lip pierced (side) 2 weeks ago with a 14 gauge CBR. I started off rinsing with mouthwash after eating and drinking and cleaning the piercing once a day in the shower, followed by an antibacterial spray (Xpressions, recommended by piercer).
After the first week I cut down on the cleanings, and now I just wash it with my face in the shower; not using the spray anymore. Anyways, I had almost no discharge until a couple days ago, and now the outside of the piercing gets crusty throughout the day.
I don't want to irritate the piercing by picking at it or cleaning it too much, but I also don't want crusty stuff on my face! Should I leave it alone or can I remove the crust throught the day? Also, how long does the crusty phase usually last?
Thanks!
Part of the problem may be the product that you were using. We have not heard of this product and it could have harsh ingredients and the body is probably responding to it now that you are no longer using it.
You do not tell us what colour the discharge is and when you mean throughout the day, do you mean that its there all day, or that it keeps discharging all day. Please be more specific.
What size diameter is the ring? If its too large, this could also irritate the piercing. Do you turn the ring at all? Play with it? You need to be honest.
If you get crusties in the morning, put a warm compress on your lip and soften the crusties. Use a Q-tip and remove them without moving the ring. Then monitor your piercing throughout the day and see if you get more crusties and what you were doing before they formed.
Since we cannot see you, you need to give us the information.
