Hi, I had my cartilage pierced 3 weeks ago.  Now after cleaning the crust out, it always seems to build up crust very quickly afterwards.

Is this normal?
Thanks.

What type of jewellery did you get pierced with?  Was it done with a needle or the gun?  What is your aftercare?  How often?

You do not give us any information so that we can help you resolve this issue.  Give us as much information as possible.

Thanks

Had it pierced with a stud using a gun.  Used to use Caflon Piercing Drops, but up until today I used warm salty water.

After reading another thread and you said that salt water dries the tissue, I'm now not sure what to use because even the Caflon Drops did the same like dry it up and everything.

What advice can you give me? It's now 4 weeks on Wednesday since I had it pierced. Should I stop cleaning it so much? I clean it twice a day.

Thanks

The crusties are probably formed because of the alcohol content in the piercing drops you first used, then you switched to another product that dries out the tissues and you have crusties building up quickly.

Since you have read some of the posts, you may have noticed that the aftercare is only 2 1 2 weeks long and after that, you are to leave the piercing alone.  The two products that you have been using are not something that actually cleans.  Soap and water cleans and this is our aftercare.

Too much cleaning can be irritating and again the result is crusties.  If you continue to irritate, you will develop problems.  The problems may not come for another couple of weeks and we hope you do not have any problems, but we strongly recommend that you STOP doing everything to your piercing.

When you shower, just let warm water run over the piercing and afterwards, take a Q-tip and remove any crusties formed.  It will take a few days for your body to realize that you have made some changes, so be patient.  Once your body takes over, the healing will commence.

Keep in touch

Thanks. I will stop cleaning it from now on. I run warm water over the piercing and cleaned the crusties this morning but one bit from the front of the stud was a sort of greenish colour for some reason but the rest was yellowish.

I'll keep doing the same everyday until it progresses though.

Should I just run warm water over it once or twice a day?

Thanks

Since you were pierced with a gun, there is a good chance that the jewellery is either gold plated or nickel plated.  If you have a nickel sensitivity, the please get another piece of jewellery that is made of implant grade surgical stainless steel.

If you see greenish discharge, the piercing feels hot to touch and very tender, please go to the doctor.  We believe its probably the quality of the jewellery but if you have any of these symptoms, please go to your doctor.

Keep in touch
