Bump for almost a month!

I had my nose pierced in July, this year, and everything was going perfect until a few weeks ago. It was pierced with a needle, and the jewelry is a nostril screw. I never used anything special to care for it, other than cleaning around it with water and a q-tip.

I have read the only reason bumps tend to appear is because of irritation. I have no idea what could have caused any irritation to my piercing because I have not changed anything about the way I care for it, I have basically left it alone since week 2-3.

I now have this bump that has been here almost a month. I have not popped it, just continued my usual face cleaning method, avoiding the nose piercing altogether. The bump started out VERY small and flesh colored, with no fluid in it. After that it proceeded to look like a pimple, and then blood filled. About a week ago it went down somewhat, and now within the past 2 days is blood filled again. I have tried warm hot compresses and no change has occured at all!

I AM GETTING EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED! How long do I have to wait this out?

Sounds identical what happened to mine.

I tried sea salt, asprin, hot compress, tea tree, and leaving it alone, and thats it.  But still nothing worked for me.

Maybe you should just leave it alone for a week or two and see how it goes from there.

thanks for the advice...I have been leaving it alone because of reading on here that doing anything else will only irritate the bump worse, but it's STILL not improving. I've only done a few hot compresses, and the day after it seems to have gone down a bit, but then by the next morning it is just as big as it was before.

I just don't understand how long it will take to get back to normal again, and I am SO disappointed in this piercing, but don't want to give up on it!

You did something to irritate the piercing.  You should not be disappointed with the piercing; it did not go out of its way to upset you.

You had the piercing for 2 months before the bump showed up.  What did you do about 2 weeks before the bump started?  When you write you were cleaning around the piercing, what exactly did you do?

At our shop, we tell our clients to wash your face as you would normally do if you did NOT have the piercing.  The care is when you dry your face to pat it down and now rub so that you do not catch the nostril head piece.  Did this ever happen to you?  Even once?

You had the bump for a month, did you do anything at all to it during that time before you wrote to us.  If you did, then you have slowed down the healing of the bump.  When we interfere in the healing, then the body has to deal with the irritation and then heal.

Warm water compress will help to express the fluid inside the bump, but do not pop the head as this will only make it worse.  If it pops on its own, it is less likely to form another one.

Keep in touch

well it is now almost a whole month later and my bump is STILL here! I really have done nothing out of the ordinary, now or before the bump appeared. I only ever treated it as if it weren't really there.

In the beginning I cleaned around it with water and a q-tip.  I stopped that once the piercing seemed healed enough, and that was the ONLY change. I never once snagged it on a towel or washcloth, and can't remember it ever getting hit or anything. I was so careful in the beginning. I am beyond frustrated and think at this point the only thing to do is to take it out, which would be very disappointing to me!

I have not done the compresses very frequently and I have been lately cleaning it every other day or so with a q-tip, very gently only using water. WHY won't it go away?  It doesn't seem very normal to have had a bump for over 2 months.  it shrinks occasionally and then 2 days later is big again. Yesterday it was oozing a little on the side closest to the piercing.  could that mean infection and it's not going to heal on its own?

I really need help with what to do...I love my piercing and do not want to take it out, but with this bump obviously it is not even close to being attractive.

this is exactly what happened to me. i got mine pierced and then 3 weeks later i snagged it on a towel and it started bleeding, the bump came a few days after that.

i had the bump for 2 months also and i was beginning to think it would never go away and i was so frustrated like you are. but i said no matter what i wouldnt take it out. haha. i tried everything including nothing, water, peroxide, alcohol, h2ocean.  nothing really made it better or worse, i tried the sea salt but its so hard to soak your nose!

You stated in your last post that your piecing was oozing.  This is a strong indication of irritation.  If the oozing is clear to white, it is discharge from the body.  If it becomes or is yellowish, then its blood serum and this is a definitely response from the body of an irritation that its trying to get rid of.

You are possibly doing something in your sleep or just touching it enough to make it upset and this means that the bump does not go away.  You also stated that the bump does shrink but then 2 days later its larger again.  This again reiterates that something IS irritating it and when we figure it out, the bump will go away.

Please think of the things you are doing to the piercing and lets try to eliminate them and get the bump to disappear.
