I got my labret pierced about two days ago. It has caused me no problems whatsoever thus far, very minimal redness and irritation and pretty much zero swelling as far as I can tell.
However, I have noticed a little ring underneath the back (it's a stud with a spike on the outside) and I guess this is "nesting"? As far as I can tell the stud feels like it's the "perfect" size, it doesn't feel tight, but it fits my lip perfectly, I can't see any of the bar unless I move it slightly by pushing it against my teeth or out with my tongue.
I was told by my piercer to put Neosporin on the outside, but I have only done this once because I was skeptical. I have been cleaning it in the shower and then brushing around it delicately on the inside to make sure it stays clean of food and stuff.
Should I be ready to change the length when it's healed further, or is a little nesting okay?
What you are describing is what happens when you have peak swelling. As the next couple of weeks go by, you should notice that the barbell seems to be showing more. Depending on the size of the spike, this may be large enough and heavy enough that it may put some pressure on the inside of the piercing. You may notice that the barbell is slanting forward somewhat.
We do not recommend that you 'brush' your inside of your mouth as this is seriously damaging to the tissues and you may have problems down the road. Just follow our aftercare which is under the forum heading as Blackstar Aftercare.
We generally wait until all swelling has dissipated before switching to a shorter barbell. This takes about 3-4 weeks sometimes even longer if you play with it too much. At that point, if you need a shorter shaft, then you will switch. If the piercing is doing fine with that shaft, there is no need to switch.
Good luck
