I have looked at another posting about the barbell sinking. I saw the recommendations on the stop brushing the tongue. I brush my teeth morning and night and use mouthwash.
I was told by the piercing place to use H2Ocean at least 4 to 6 times a day and every time after I smoke a cigerette. So, I use the spray often.
My barbell is sinking, I have some slight secretions a cloudy white color. I have pain only when the suction from the sinking when the barbell comes up. I also sleep with my mouth closed, with my tongue pressed against the roof of my mouth. (habit from childhood)
My tongue never swelled that much. I understand that it is still swollen to some extent, but is it suppose to sink like it is? My concern is the sinking, if it sinks anymore then I will not be able to see it. Should I push up the barbell at night, leave my mouth open, and not use the spray so much?
I have some antibiotics, should I take those? My other piercings are doing fine. No problems and they are almost not sore anymore. I can send pictures if I need to. It is a 16g, 1inch barbell. I had it done a week ago.
Please help as much as you can. Thanks
MOST IMPORTANT STOP USING THE H2OCEAN PRODUCT! It has salt in it and this only irritates the piercing.
Brushing the tongue is not a good idea when its freshly pierced as it irritates it very much and the swelling will not dissipate if continued. You are definitely overusing the spray product and this can create a condition called THRUSH! This is a yeast infection in the mouth. So please go to our aftercare section and see what we have as the aftercare and follow it (you are on day 7 and our aftercare says to use Original Listerine until day 10 and then switch to a mintier flavour).
The tongue before it is pierced may be about 1 2" in thickness, you claim that you have a 1" 16g barbell and your tongue is not swollen but the ball is sinking into your tongue. Guess what, IT IS DEFINITELY SWOLLEN to about twice as thick!
Once you are asleep, you do not know what your body is doing and most people sleep with their mouth closed and the tongue would touch the upper part of the mouth naturally. So doing anything different would not improve your condition.
The other problem is the gauge of the barbell. That gauge is just too thin for the tongue and will eventually start migrating which means that the barbell will move forward towards the tip of your tongue and eventually fall out. We strongly recommend getting a 14 or 12 gauge barbell very soon to reduce that possibility.
The sinking will only be relieved as the swelling dissipates so please follow our recommendations.
DO NOT TAKE ANTIBIOTICS UNLESS THEY ARE PRESCRIBED FOR YOU BY A DOCTOR AND FOR A SPECIFIC CONDITION.
You state that you have other piercings, but you do not tell us what they are and how long ago you got them. Please send pictures so that we can help you better.
