I recently got my nipple pierced. It's my first (and last) piercing, and I've experienced no pain, swelling, or discharge since having it done (about 5 days ago).
I've been following the aftercare instructions (washing rotating twice a day in the shower, followed up by the use of an after-piercing antiseptic). Again, I've had no physical problems from it.
My concern is this: on the right exit-hole, there is a VERY SMALL black ring that forms around the jewelry throughout the day. It usually washes off in the shower, and I'm almost positive that it's just normal scabbing, but this is my first piercing, and I have no experience with this. Is this normal?
Thanks
An update
Today I followed this site's advice and only cleaned the piercing once. Then tonight, while in the shower, I noticed that it may be migrating. The hole on the right side seems to be growing ever so slightly--that is, the skin around the exit-hole isn't tight against the ring.
Is this normal? I'm going to speak with my piercer tomorrow to get his advice, because if it's migrating I want it out as soon as possible.
Also in the shower, a small amount of pus formed around the jewelry on both sides. Could this be a sign of infection, or is this just a natural part of the healing?
Thanks
We do not know what the antiseptic product is but its not necessary to use as it probably has harsh ingredients and this will only irritate the piercing.
You also wrote that you are now following our aftercare and this is good. The black ring could be a result of using the antiseptic product but are unable to make that determination.
The description you write about the one side of the piercing is not clear on the picture. Your description is telling us that the piercing has a little bit of leverage in one of the holes. If we understand what you are trying to say, this is not migration but part of the healing process. Do not concern yourself with this.
The discharge is probably caused by irritation and its not a sign of infection. An infection would have these symptoms: hot to touch, very red and extreme pain. You have not stated any of these problems, so please do not worry about it.
You stated that the piercing was done with a 16g ring, but from the picture we believe that its 14g (a 16g ring would not be able to support the diameter or size of the bead), please check with your piercer.
Please write about what the piercer says. Thanks
