Great forum by the way.  Ive had my nose pierced for nearly 3 weeks now and it is doing ok.  after reading some other replies from you I have stopped bathing it twice a day with sea salt soaks and now I just bathe it in warm water to get any residue off!

My only problem I have is that I have a straight nose stud in like the ones they pierce ears with (it was pierced with a needle).  It has fallen out numerous times when i was bathing it and when i yawn etc do you recommend me getting a nose screw in?

my piercer says i can change my stud after 3 weeks what do you think?  Also has anyone used or heard of Bioflex jewellery what do you think for a 3 week old piercing?  As i have not blown my nose for 3 weeks but i have been using Q-tips (yukky!).  All and any advice will be greatly appreciated thanks.

I've heard of bioflex bars, apparently they are the new in thing. Umm from what I know (which isnt overly alot) the bioflex bar should be alright for your piercing. Best to check with a piercer beforehand though.

As for getting a screw, I would suggest it. Having just a straight post in your nose isn't good enough, especially if it keeps falling out. I have a screw in mine and only once when I first got it done did I actually pull it out of my nose in my sleep (weird because i didnt feel a thing!).

Have one custom bent to your nose while its healing and then you'll probobably have to go back later on and get another, shorter one put in.

Thanks for your reply, I might go to my piercer tomorrow and get a nose screw in.  I dont know if they will be able to custom bend it as the ones i have seen have already got a curve in them.

Do you reccomend steel or titanium, my cousin had hers pierced for the second time 2 weeks ago and took hers out 2 days later and put a silver stud in!

I am a bit of a neurotic and am worrying myself silly that i am going to get a bump on it if i change the jewellery and stop bathing it in salt water too soon.  I also get a bit obsessive on the cleaning front.

anyway thanks again

I would probably go with a titanium one as titanium has less impurities, so less reaction (if there is any).

I definitely wouldn't reccommend putting silver in as it's pretty bad for healing piercings but if it works for her then all well and good. One thing with silver is that silver can leave a black ring around the nose stud which is very very hard to get rid of once it's there.

Your piercing should have straight ones for custom bending. If not, then I would go somewhere that does do custom bending as they are the best ones for you.

Thanks for replying again.  Well i went today and got a nose screw in.  It was not custom bent, but i think it is ok (i hope).  My piercer had a bit of trouble getting it in and it bled a little and was quite sore.  I hope i have not done any damage getting it changed to soon.

I have just got the gunk of it with a Q-tip and have not bathed it in water.  I hope i dont get the dreaded "bump".  The screw is fitting quite snug i think it looks a bit tight but my boyfriend (who had his done with a gun 12 years ago) keeps telling me not to be a neurotic.

I hope all goes well with it and will be back in touch for any further advice if i need it (i hope i wont).

thanks again

To brezzamagoo

If you do not understand completely what a metal is made of and what qualities it has, please do not give incorrect information.  Titanium is a metal that our body does NOT recognize as a foreign object so our tissues can become bonded with them.  This is why the new latest replacement body parts are now being made with titanium and ceramic.  It has nothing to do with impurities.

Implant Grade surgical stainless steel (316L or LVM) is a metal that is used in the body when the need is for screws to keep bones together until they heal; as they may need to be removed after the healing process.  This is the metal that we use for all our piercings because the allergic reaction to this metal is .01% of the world population.  We do not have to worry about what will happen if we use titanium.

To toots

Please do not clean the piercing and just leave it alone.  We understand using a Q-tip to remove any crusties and you can blow your nose without incident.

So please do not use any salt water product on the piercing as this will dry out the area and cause you problems later on.

We hope that by changing the jewellery to a nostril screw and if you leave it alone, you should have a healthy piercing.

Please keep in touch.
